Guest-worthy Sandwiches: Ham & Cherry Sandwich

I do a whole lot of hand-puppeting and re-folding laundry and assuring that Diego will find all the missing pieces of the moon with my daylight hours. But sometimes I do things that feel ridiculously luxurious during the day like host little lunch dates with my girlfriends. When I do, I try to avoid PB&J's (no disrespect to the scrumptious classic) if I can help it. Instead, I like to serve a guest-worthy sandwich like this little number from Martha Stewart's crew at Whole Living.

Ham and Cherry Sandwich
by Martha Stewart at Whole Living
Serving: 1 Sandwich

Ingredients
2 slices whole-wheat bread
2 tsp cherry jam
2 to 3 escarole leaves
2 oz sliced ham
3 small slices Parmesan (1 oz)

Directions
Spread jam on both slices of bread. Top one slice of bread with escarole, sliced ham, and Parmesan. Top with second slice.
................................

Sweet, salty, nutty, crispy, and tart. I was sure cherries, ham and fresh parm would make for a killer flavor profile, and I was not disappointed. Always remember that when you have only a few ingredients like this, quality is everything. Don't skimp!
Let those gorgeous seeds strut their stuff! Toast your bread to newly release their nutty flavor.
